Malaria
Kariba & Charara is a malarial area.
It is highly recommended that all
visitors take malaria prophylaxis before,
during and for the recommended period
thereafter.
Crocodiles
There are numerous 'large'
crocodiles in Lake Kariba. They pose a
real danger to life and limb.
Please do not lean over the side of the
boat to wash your hands, rather use a
bucket on the boat for this
purpose.
Likewise, DO NOT venture
into or near the water around Charara or
Kariba.
Crocodiles are becoming very familiar
with boats and humans and must be treated
with great respect.
Wild
Animals
Charara Site is a designated recreational
area situated within the Charara Safari
area of National Parks and consequently,
their Rules and Regulations are to be
respected and strictly adhered to.
Wild animals are plentiful, but please
remember, they are wild and should be
treated as such.
Please do not feed or tease the animals
in any manner whatsoever.
If you feed a wild animal, you are condemning it to death.
Underwater
Obstructions
Underwater obstacles like tree stumps and
rocky outcrops exist in Lake Kariba. This is
a real danger, so please be careful in
unfamiliar areas
Security
Personal security against theft is a problem
affecting the country and Kariba
Please bear this in mind at all times, take
care of your valuables and lock them away if
possible
